This is episode 20 of the Gary Winchester radio show hosted by Gary Winchester. In this episode Gary shared about the life of a stay at home dad, social media and family wellness.

Life of a stay at home dad

Do you ever feel like you’re messing up your kids? I am not sure how you feel about that but for me I feel like I often do. Whether it’s because I am not showing enough love, not enough discipline or if I am yelling too much. I find that I am typically critical of myself and unsure about my abilities as a dad, but I have always been my worst enemy.

Overcoming this “bad parent” mindset is not easy but this is what helps me get out of that rut on a daily basis by reminding myself…

  • Be present
  • Give hugs often
  • Say I love you
  • Read a book to the kids
  • Color with them
  • Let them climb on me, especially my youngest
  • Listen to what they are saying
  • Accept their love

Hope this helps you.

Social Media

I recently listened to Buffer’s Podcast called “The Science of Social Media” when they talked about the Social P.R.I.S.M. by Ian Cleary the Founder and CEO of RazorSocial. I loved this episode because it really breaks down social into a simple acronym.

People

Social Media exists because of people, it’s all about connecting one person to the next and to the next. It’s reduced the law of separation significantly. We forget all too often that it’s more than numbers we see. It’s beyond the number of likes, shares, comments, etc. that you get on your post, it’s all about the connection with other people.

Relationship

The connection we have between each other is just the starting point but if we develop that connection it becomes a relationship. I often tell clients that it’s as simple as one conversation at a time, from comments to direct messages.

Inbound

Once you achieve connection and build relationship it’s easy to transition that into traffic going to your website. Using social strategically will significantly impact your website traffic. It’s all about getting them to come to you.

*Disclaimer: This does not mean if you “build it they will come.” It takes work.

Subscribers

I have always told my clients this. You can’t control Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. but you can control the website you pay for and the email list you build (your subscribers). It’s always best to use what you can control.

Monetize

“Money, money, money!” Let’s get things straight, I am not completely money focused but you have to make money to survive and grow your business so you can take care of your family and your employees. This is something I will get more in-depth with in another episode, but there are many ways to make money on social but it takes work and consistency.

Family Wellness

There is one thing I hate most in the world and it’s getting a freaking cold. I hate it, hate it, hate it! However, it happens to us all! We all get sick from time to time, but we all handle it differently. I use a pure, safe and natural product that helps me reduce how long my colds are and how often I get them. We use it on my kids too! We also sell this product.

What is it? It’s essential oils. I woke up with a scratchy throat and some congestion so I used some of our oils…

Peppermint

Peppermint essential oil helps promotes healthy respiratory function and clear breathing, plus it tastes great in coffee or water and keeps me alert. Clears that brain fog some of us get in the morning.

OnGuard Protective Blend

OnGuard is blend of essential oils (Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark/Leaf, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils) that supports healthy immune and respiratory function. This proprietary blend is one of our go to oils for our whole family.

We take these and other essential oils internally, topically and use them aromatically. You can only take certain essential oils internally if they have a supplement facts. Something that has really bothered me a lot since starting to use and sell essential oils is that there are some brands that you cannot take their essential oils internally. Like lemon! I could go buy a lemon, cut it open and eat it, but if I buy some other brands lemon essential oil I can’t take it internally.

Why is this? Most brands you can buy over the counter and even from distributers have fillers in their essential oils. Fillers like formaldehyde and other harmful or toxic chemicals. This stuff even goes into your body when you diffuse it.

The product we use and sell is 100% Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils which makes them safe for kids. They are farmed naturally from the earth at their peak season and location on the planet. If you are interested in learning more about the product and brand we use and sell let me know.

Usually what I do for people is set up a quick appointment to go over your health goals, a little bit about the company and the most popular kits. My part would take about 30 minutes. You don’t have to buy anything, but if you see something you like, of course I will help you order it. Is that something you would be open to?
